Royal Seat of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is a historical landmark located in the municipality of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, about 45 km (28 miles) northwest of Madrid, Spain. It was commissioned by King Philip II in 1559 and completed in 1584. It served as the royal palace and monastic complex of the Spanish monarchy and a site of important meetings of political and religious leaders.
