History:

The Red Monastery, also known as the Monastery of the Syncellus, is an early Coptic monastery located in Sohag, Egypt, nearby the White Monastery and Deir al-Bakht. The Red Monastery was founded in the 5th century by Pope Shenouda the Archimandrite, who was the architect of the White Monastery, and is renowned for its preserved wall paintings and architecture from that time period. The Monastery was named after its reddish exterior, which was made from red mud and brick.
