The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, also commonly known as the Great Mosque of Córdoba, is a World Heritage Site in Córdoba, Spain, that was once the great medieval Islamic mosque of the Middle Ages. Built between 780 and 987, the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba is one of the most important monuments of Moorish architecture in Al-Andalus—an area encompassing parts of present-day Spain and the Portuguese Azores. In the 16th century, it was converted into a Christian cathedral by the Catholic Monarchs.
