History:

The Leipzig Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Germany. It was first established in 1542 by city council. In 1609, the garden was reconstructed with new layout and an orangery in the middle that resembled the octagonal shape of a rhombus. The garden boasted a large lily pond with benches around it for visitors to enjoy the scenery. The garden expanded over the years, with additional flowerbeds and chestnut trees being planted in the 18th century. In 1760, a greenhouse was built that allowed more tropical plants to be grown.
