Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima is a Roman Catholic church located in the historic district of San Francisco, California. It is the first parish church in the city,built in 1824 and completed in 1840. The church was originally part of the Mission San Francisco de Asís, and served as both a place of spiritual and social gathering for the priests and the resident colonials. The church is still used today by parishioners of various Spanish-speaking backgrounds, along with English-speaking Latinos and Native Americans. The church currently holds Masses in both English and Spanish and offers Spanish-language classes, as well as lectures and workshops on heritage studies. The church is also home to a variety of sacred art, including an 18th century painting, and various artifacts from the era.
