GriefShare In USA: History,Facts, & Services

GriefShare is an international support group program designed to help people process their grief after the death of a loved one. It was founded in 1993 by Dr. Bill and Susan Sanford as a way to help those grieving the death of a loved one find the encouragement, comfort, and healing they need. The program focuses on a Christ-centered approach and provides group support and resources to those who have suffered a loss. GriefShare first began as a Christian response to the death of a close family member and has now grown to a worldwide organization. It began with three churches in New York, Dallas and Boston hosting a weekly, two-hour support group for those grieving the death of a loved one. Eventually, GriefShare grew to provide weekly support groups in churches all over the United States and internationally in more than 5,000 churches in more than 20 countries. GriefShare focuses on helping people process and understand their grief in a safe and supportive environment. Their mission is to “serve and equip churches to compassionately reach those affected by grief and loss by providing biblically based resources and support programs”. GriefShare provides group support, group resources, and encourages members to participate in an online community of others grieving a loss. They also provide an online community discussion board and blogs as well as a weekly email ministry. GriefShare also has multiple conferences, seminars and other resources geared towards individuals, churches, and organizations. These offerings are designed to provide guidance, tools, and practical ideas to help those grieving the death of a loved one find hope and healing during their grief journey.
