The Roman Catholic Suburbicarian Diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina is an ecclesiastical territory of the Diocese of Rome, geographically distinct from the city itself. Established in the fifth century, the Diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina is part of the seven churches that are known as the seven suburbicarian dioceses. The Diocese is located approximately 15 miles east of the city of Rome, in the Lazio region. The area includes a number of towns, such as Formello, Civitella San Paolo, Vitinia, and Nemi. The Diocese is administered by a Bishop, appointed by the Pope, and is home to a number of important historical sites, such as the Basilica of Santa Rufina and the Basilica of San Paolo fuori le Mura.
