History:
The Jewish Museum of Rome opened its doors in 2005, in a building formerly known as the Sinagoga di Rome or Ghetto dei Roman Israeliti. The building has a long and important history in the Jewish community of Rome, having been home to one of the major synagogues of the city since the 17th century. Following the devastation of the Ghetto after the 1943 Nazi occupation of Rome, the building underwent significant restoration and was officially designated a national museum in 2004.
