Church Rome Baptist was founded in 1836 by seven members: Elijah Willingham, Sr., Elijah Willingham, Jr., John Willingham, Thomas Luther, William Tucker, David Barbee, and Elisha Dunn. The founding members met in a small building near the Etowah River before constructing their current building at the intersection of Broad and Church streets. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Denmark.
