Church of Saint Joseph was established in 1870 by Jesuit priest Father Charles Didier to serve the early Catholic settlers in the Helena area. The original church was a one-room log structure that the parishioners built themselves. In 1890, the current Gothic-style structure was built. The church underwent a major renovation in 1939 that included the construction of a new bell tower and sanctuary. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Spain.
