It was built in 1892 in the Gothic Revival style, and is consecrated to Our Lady of Montserrat, the patroness saint of Catalonia. History:

The inspiration for the building of the Church of Our Lady of Montserrat came from a ceramic plate, which sported an image of a pilgrimage from 1904. The initial construction plans were created by the architect Enric Sagnier and was completed in 1892. To invoke the mountain sanctuary of Montserrat, the walls of the church were constructed with a variety of stones, echoing the particular style of the architecture of the Montserrat Mountain. The church is the centerpiece of the large building complex of the same name, which spans the entire block and occupies the city block bounded by Jean Jaures, Provença, Diagonal and Pintor Fortuny Streets. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Spain.
