It consists of three levels cut out of solid rock, beginning at a depth of over 75 feet below the ground. The complex is believed to have been constructed in the 2nd century AD, and consists of a central shaft leading down to multiple burial chambers featuring a mix of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artifacts. The tombs are decorated with sculptures, inscriptions, and symbols from all three ancient cultures, and are noted for their impressively preserved wall paintings depicting scenes from Egyptian mythology and Greco-Roman funerary traditions. The complex also includes several columbaria, and a large rectangular banquet hall where funeral meals were held.
