Capilla de Mosén Rubí is located in Soneja, Spain and dates back to the 18th century. It is an example of 18th century Baroque architecture and one of the most important monuments of this period in the province of Castellón. It is made up of an atrium, a vestibule, the chapel itself, and a cloister. The interior of the chapel is decorated with frescoes, sculptures and paintings.
History
The chapel was built in 1749 by the Order of Friars Minor, who were granted permission to build there by King Philip V. It was completed in 1753, and was dedicated to St. Augustine.
Facts
The chapel exterior is made of brick, and the tower stands at about 16 metres tall. Inside, its six stucco sculptures, in the form of angels, are the main decoration. The main altarpiece is made of polychrome wood with coloured tiles, and is dedicated to St. Augustine.
Services
The chapel holds religious services to this day, including Mass and the celebration of feast days in honour of St. Augustine and other saints.
