Beni Hasan Tombs in Minya are an archaeological site located in Middle Egypt. The site consists of 39 rock-cut tombs which were discovered in the 19th century in the ancient necropolis of Beni Hasan. It is estimated that the tombs were constructed from 2055 - 1650 BCE, during the 11th and 12th Dynasties of the Middle Kingdom. It is one of the best churches in Egypt which you must visit.

History:

The site of Beni Hasan Tombs in Minya was discovered in 1820, by French explorer and archaeologist Jean François Champollion. Champollion conducted a detailed survey of the tombs which included reconstruction of the structures, publication of illustrations and excavation of a few of the tombs. Since then, the tombs have been subject to several archaeological excavations. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Egypt.
