The church was originally built in 1087 by Vratislav II, the King of Bohemia, to commemorate the transfer of the bodies of Saints Vitus and Wenceslaus to Prague. The current building was completed in 1711 and is now a prominent landmark of the city. It is one of the best churches in Czechia which you must visit.

The original church of St. Clement was built in 1087 by Vratislav II. It was destroyed by a fire in 1307, and a new church was built from 1335 to the 1393. It suffered another fire in the 17th century, and was rebuilt in the Baroque style from 1700 to 1711. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Czechia.
