Worship Method:

Zhaojue Temple, located in east China's Shandong province, follows the traditional Chinese and Buddhist ritual worship methods, which are largely unaltered since the Ming Dynasty. These include morning and evening prayers, chanting of scriptures (sutras), burning of incense, offering of flowers, chanting of mantras, and offering of food to Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Dharma protectors. Additionally, Zhaojue Temple celebrates festivals that adhere to the Chinese lunar calendar, such as the Buddha’s Birthday and the Awakening of the Dharma ceremony. According to custom, worshippers bring money or goods for the monastery at these festivals and leave it in the donation box placed in the temple hall. At the end of the ceremony, Buddhists may choose to chant praises and offer praise plates. Chanting prajñās (buddhas’ name or mantra) and offering proskynesis is another option. Other than these landmark holidays, Zhaojue Temple holds public Dharma talks, meditation sessions, and lectures twice every day for members of the community. Lay Buddhists may also arrange visits to monasteries, retreats, and pilgrimages. On these occasions, devotees may offer donations and pay their respects to the monks and Dharma teachers.
