Wuying Pagoda, located in Beijing, is a symbol of ancient Chinese culture. The Wuying Pagoda is actually a five-story, seven-story tall structure with a long history that dates back to the Liao Dynasty (916-1125). According to the steles inscription on the Pagoda, it was built in a single day with the help of 4,500 people. As part of traditional Chinese culture, worshiping of the Wuying Pagoda is an important activity for all believers of Buddhism. For centuries, people have journeyed to the Wuying Pagoda to worship it and to pay their respects to those in the heavens. The traditional way of worshiping the Wuying Pagoda is to burn incense and offer up flowers, fruits, tea, and other offerings to the gods and Buddhas. Visitors are encouraged to circle the pagoda three times to express their respect. Afterward they can enter the Temple and bow three times to the Buddha. They may also visit the shrine and offer incense, coins, and fruits. Prayers are then offered while standing in a circle, facing the shrine. After prayer, the worshiper may proceed to bow three times while offering up prayers of thanksgiving and gratitude.
