Worship Method:

Mange Temple, a Buddhist temple located in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, China, honors the Buddhist monk Xuanzang, who traveled along the Silk Road and brought back sacred scriptures from India. The Buddha Hall, main hall, and several other buildings are revered, and many visitors come to take part in religious ceremonies and venerate the grand temple. The Buddhist worship method in Mange Temple is largely focused on chanting scriptures and bowing to the Buddhists and monks. The main hall where visitors go is filled with golden Buddha statues and devotes kneel, clasping their hands together, and chant sutras. Along with chanting, visitors also light incense and candles. In the courtyard of the temple, followers of Buddhism walk around in a circle, ritually circling the religious path as a way to honor the monk Xuanzang and the sutras he brought back from India. Visitors who come to Mange Temple to worship can also take part in more intense rituals, such as prostrations. During prostrations, a devotee lowers their body while saying a prayer-like chant. The devotee then kneels, presses their forehead to the ground, and rises to stand again in a repeated motion along with a chant. The temple also has quiet meditation rooms, where visitors can be close to and pray to the Buddhist scriptures in silence. Those who visit the temple with no intention to worship can still enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the temple and appreciate the magnificent Buddhist architecture and culture.
