History:

The Diefenbaker Canada Centre is located in the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It is one of only two sites in Canada dedicated to the study of the life and work of Canada’s 13th Prime Minister, John Diefenbaker. The idea for a centre dedicated to Prime Minister Diefenbaker first came from the Diefenbaker Memorial Society in 1977, as a way to preserve the history of Diefenbaker and his impact on Canada. In 1982, it became a reality with the opening of the John Diefenbaker Memorial Centre, located in the University of Saskatchewan's College Of Education Building. The Centre's goal was to provide a permanent home for the preservation and display of Diefenbaker's memorabilia and personal artifacts. In 1991, the Centre was relocated to a new building on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon and was renamed the John Diefenbaker Canada Centre. The Centre contains many of the same exhibits as the original memorial centre, including furniture, photographs, archives, and a library and archives dedicated to Diefenbaker’s life and work. The Diefenbaker Canada Centre is dedicated to promoting dialogue and scholarship on the life and work of John Diefenbaker. It does this through various public programs, such as exhibitions, lectures, and workshops, as well as educational and school tours.
