Worship Method:

The Wat Sampeau temple of Battambang Province is an ancient temple located in Battambang, Cambodia. It is believed to have been constructed in the 17th century and is home to many intricate sculptures and artwork. The primary form of worship at Wat Sampeau is Theravada Buddhism, a branch of the ancient Buddhist path which is popular in Cambodia. Theravada Buddhism is based upon the teachings of the historical Buddha, known as Gautama Siddhartha. Monks at Wat Sampeau and throughout Cambodia practice Theravada Buddhism by living a life of simplicity, meditation and study of the Buddhist teachings. Every morning, monks at Wat Sampeau attend Pūjā, a ceremonial worship honoring the awakening of the Buddhas and the meditation and reflection that will follow. During the Pūjā ceremony, monks chant sutras and hold incense while dedicating their practice to the Buddhas. Throughout the day, monks will recite Pali verses from the Pali canon and the Amitabha Sutra. These two ancient scriptures will be chanted in unison as a single voice, expressing the realization of all beings being interrelated and united through the Buddhadharma, or Buddhist teachings. The day ends with another Pūjā, similar to the morning one. However, this time the commemoration is dedicated to the Five Buddhas, and the culmination of the practice is the lighting of lamps and holding of incense while the monks chant sutras and verses from the Pali canon. At Wat Sampeau, worshippers may also practice pilgrimage, visiting sacred sites to pay homage and receive blessing from the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
