Statue of Sihanouk Norodom Cambodia In Cambodia: History,Facts, & Services
The Statue of Sihanouk Norodom Cambodia is a national monument located in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh. Built to honour one of the country’s most beloved figures, King Sihanouk Norodom, it is a grandiose representation of a man who dedicated his life to the country and was remembered and venerated by the nation after his death.
The idea for the statue was initially pursued by Prime Minister Hun Sen, who had worked closely with King Sihanouk during his rule. After several years of fundraising and public support, construction of the bronze and granite monument began in 2002 and was officially unveiled in 2014.
The monument stands 20 meters tall and is surrounded by a regiment of 37 statues, depicting King Sihanouk’s life, legacy, and legacy in art, music, and sport. All of these sculptures were created by local Cambodian artist Suos Sivuchear, who also created a life-sized replica of the King. The monument is open to the public and serves as a popular tourist attraction.
