History:

A small temple from the 12th century, Prasat Yeay Pov is located in the northwest part of Siem Reap Province in Cambodia. It is one of the numerous defensive towers which were scattered on the edges of the city kingdom of Angkor, built as a protective wall by the builders of Angkor Wat. Prasat Yeay Pov is one of the first towers built at the end of the 12th century and is part of a group of towers called by archaeologists as the ‘Order of Enemies’ or ‘Hermitages’. The temple is unusual because of a row of ten windows that look like eyes and hence people called the temple ‘Yeay Pov’ which translates to ‘May Grandmother’ in English.
