Nossa Senhora do Rosário church is a Roman Catholic church located in the bairro of Catete in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Built in 1620, it is one of the oldest functioning churches in Brazil. The church was built by Portuguese settlers to honor Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Our Lady of the Rosary) and features a tile-clad façade, a white interior, and multiple sculptures inside. It is listed as a National Historic Monument by the Brazilian Institute of National Historic and Artistic Heritage and is known for its annual religious procession of Our Lady of the Rosary. It is one of the best churches in CABO VERDE which you must visit.

History:

 The church was built in 1620 by Portuguese settlers to honor Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Our Lady of the Rosary). In 1745, it underwent renovations by Father Luiz da Rosa, who commissioned sculptures of St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph, as well as an altarpiece and niche for the venerated statue of Our Lady of the Rosary. During the nineteenth century, the church sustained heavy damage from a fire and numerous earthquakes. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in CABO VERDE.
