History:

The Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP) is the first modern museum in Brazil. It was founded in 1947 by lawyer and politician Assis Chateaubriand, who invited an important cultural figure of the time, Pedro Monsaraz, to serve as its first director. The new institution was initially housed in the residence of Lina Bo Bardi, an influential Brazilian architect and sculptor. MASP quickly became a beacon of modernity and fine arts in Brazil.
