History:
The Avenida Paulista is one of São Paulo’s most iconic sites and remains the commercial heart of the city since it was built in 1891. Extending for 8km and over 60meters wide, the avenue runs diagonally between two important gates, Praça da Sé and Praça Ramos de Azevedo. The boulevard is home to some of the city's most famous restaurants, bars, and theatres as well as more than 400 companies and 50 banks, making it one of the most important economic districts in Latin America. In 1923, the first avenue was extended to 8 km, with the addition of a large land piece obtained from former coffee farms. Then in 1932, the street was renamed Avenida Paulista, in honor of Brazilian soldier, statesman, and engineer Paulo de Frontin.
