History:
Incallajta, or also known as the Muisca city, is a complex prehistoric ruin located near modern-day La Paz in Bolivia. It is one of the most important archaeological findings in the country and is believed to have been the capital of the powerful Muisca culture that flourished in the region from 800 BC to the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century. The ancient city of Incallajta covers an area of 285 hectares (703 acres) and is remarkable for the more than 500 mounds, terraces, plazas, and other features that were built by the ancient Muisca culture. In the center of the city, the Muisca people constructed a large temple mound, which has been estimated to have been as high as 8 meters (26 feet) tall in its original form. This cultural center was likely mostly used for religious and ceremonial events as well as being the political and economic center of Incallajta and its surrounding region. Archaeologists have found a variety of artifacts at the site, such as pottery, gold and silver figures, and even gold and silver tools. The Incallajta ruins have been largely well-preserved despite their age and serve as a testament to the advanced engineering and technological capabilities of the Muisca people of the time. The site has also been declared an archaeological protected area and is now open to the public for exploration and research.
