History:

The settlement of Tang Valley in Bhutan is believed to date back to around the 10th century. The valley was likely settled by a group of people who migrated from the nearby South Indian state of Karnataka. Over time, elements of Hindu culture would be absorbed into the local Tibetan-Bhutanese culture. In the 17th century, Buddhism was formally introduced to the Tang Valley with the arrival of the 5th Druk Desi, Nawang Gyaltsen. He founded the Yangchen Monastery, which was Bhutan's first monastery. During the 18th century, the valley was settled by nomads from Mongolia. One of the most prominent leaders among the nomads was Kache Lama, who helped manage the settlement and later became the caretaker of the Yangchen Monastery. For centuries, the Tang Valley has remained a relatively isolated settlement, located high up in the Himalayas between Bhutan and Tibet.
