The worship method of Chakhar Lhakhang is a traditional Buddhist spiritual practice known as a ‘Puja’. This puja starts with a chant and the recitation of mantras, which are offerings to the spirits of peace and benevolence. The puja is usually led by the lama of the temple, who guides the congregation in offering prayers and requests for blessings to the buddhas, bodhisattvas, protective deities, and other holy beings. Once the initial prayer has been offered, the Temple is cleansed and purified by ringing a bell, burning incense, and rotating prayer wheels. Offerings to the gods are usually made while standing in a meditation posture, and can include flowers, fruits, cooked foods, and ritual items such as candles and white scarves. Afterwards, the lama will bless the congregation with droplet offerings of blessed water. This serves as a reminder of the Buddha's teachings, and is intended to bring peace and healing to all beings. Once the puja is over, the lama will prepare and distribute blessed food for all those who have participated in the ceremony.
