Located in an area of Brussels known as Ixelles, the original building where construction began in 1749 was first called "Notre-Dame de l'Auxerre". It was officially changed to Boniface Church in 1797 in honour of Saint Boniface, the patron saint of Belgium. The church was consecrated in 1804, although it was not fully completed until after World War I. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Belgium.
