History:

The church dates back to the 12th century when the Count of Leuven, Lambert I, founded the abbaye de Parc in 1135. The abbaye de Parc is believed to have been located on the current church's site. During the Middle Ages, St James' Church was an important place for worship and learning but, like other churches in the city, it suffered from fire, destruction and destruction of books in the 16th century during the wars of religion. The church was restored in 1724 and remained in use until 1975. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Belgium.
