Kostol Materi Bozhey Ruzhantsovoy is a Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow, Russia. The building was constructed from 1932 to 1933 under the supervision of the architect Valentin Petrovich Koliadov. It was consecrated in 1933 and dedicated to the birth of St. Mary of the Burning Bush, an icon venerated in Russia.
Kostol Materi Bozhey has a unique and colorful history, as it was both an international diplomatic center, and a place where citizens of Moscow could come to seek help and spiritual counsel. During the Great Patriotic War, two separate healing and blessing rituals were performed for the survivors, which were broadcast over the radio. Additionally, during the post-Stalin period, the church became a more accessible center for missionary work abroad.
The building is of traditional Russian Orthodox style, with five blue domes symbolizing Christ, the Virgin Mary, the four evangelists, and the twelve apostles, and an inner dome symbolizing the kingdom of heaven. The interior of the church is is decorated with numerous Byzantine-style frescoes and mosaics, depicting important figures in the Orthodox pantheon.
The Kostol Materi Bozhey is still an active place of worship and cultural heritage, with a yearly celebration being held in the chapel. Today, the chapel’s services include regular worship services and prayer meetings, as well occasional music recitals and special religious events. Additionally, the church continues to provide spiritual solace and guidance to Ukrainians residing in Moscow.
