Founded by Reverend Elisha Odwin, the church was established as a Wesleyan Methodist mission in Barbados before becoming its own denomination. Hopewell Wesleyan Holiness Church has been actively engaged in evangelization, inspirational preaching, and humanitarian efforts in Barbados. History:

Hopewell Wesleyan Holiness Church was a mission of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of the USA set up in Barbados in the early 1900s by Rev. Elisha Odwin, who had been working in the field of evangelization and community service on the island for over 25 years. The mission work was supported by the Rev. William F. Best and his wife, Anna Best, both from the United States. In 1927, Hopewell Wesleyan Holiness Church was organized as its own denomination in Barbados, with the Rev. Best appointed as its first General Superintendent. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Barbados.
