Brief History:
The Ishwarganj Jame Mosque is one of the older and historic mosques of Bangladesh. It is located at the Ishwarganj Upazila of Mymensingh district. It was constructed during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir by Shayesta Khan, one of His Viceroys. It was later renovated by Mughal Emperor Farrukhsiyar. The mosque has three large domes, four minarets and a few mihrabs inside for prayer. The central mosque has five arched entrances. The mosque is a popular pilgrimage site for Muslims in the Mymensingh district. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bangladesh which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Ishwarganj Jame Mosque is a traditional Mughal-style mosque located in the Ishwarganj Upazila of Mymensingh district, Bangladesh. It was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1652-53 A.D. (1062 AH). The mosque was designed in such a way that it was convenient for Mughal kings and other distinguished guests to perform religious rituals. The mosque consists of a single dome and a grand porch in front. The entrance to the mosque is decorated with carvings of plants, flowers and Islamic calligraphy. The interior walls are made of beautifully carved marble. There are two side preachers' platforms in addition to the main one, and seven magnificent mihrabs. The main prayer hall is rectangular in shape, with a central aisle and four minarets. Architectural details such as fine marble carvings, beautiful floral patterns, Quranic inscriptions, and ornamental designs are used to decorate the building. The mosque is surrounded by lush greenery and a large pond in front, making it a tranquil and beautiful site. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
