St. Astvatzatzin In Armenia: History,Facts, & Services
St. Astvatzatzin is Armenia's oldest and most highly-revered saint. He is believed to be an apostle who came to Armenia around 65 AD to preach Christianity. He is credited with establishing Armenia's first Christian communities, and he is said to have performed many miracles. Today, his holy relics are housed in the Church of Little Mother of God at Echmiadzin, in what is now known as the Republic of Armenia. St. Astvatzatzin is revered and honored as an intercessor between God and man, helping people to pray for miracles, guidance and healing. Many Armenians still attend religious services and pilgrimages at his shrine in Echmiadzin on the days of his feast or the seven days that follow.
