Saint John Church In Armenia is an ancient Armenian church located in the village of Parpi in Shirak Province. It was built in the early 14th century on the site of an earlier chapel. The church is built of hewn stone and rests on a rock outcropping. The interior of the church is decorated with stone crosses and carvings of saints. Saint John Church In Armenia is mentioned in the early medieval Armenian literature of the 9th to 11th centuries AD. In that period, the church was widely known as a leading pilgrimage center which attracted many travelers from all parts of Armenia. The church was also mentioned during the 12th century by the Arab geographer al-Maqdisi. By the 13th century, the church had already become a pilgrimage center for Armenian pilgrims. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Armenia.
