Haghpat Monastery, built in the 10th century, is a medieval Armenian monastic complex located in Haghpat in the Lori region of Armenia. It is noted for its tree-lined courtyard, frescoes, and a vast collection of khachkars (cross-stones). Haghpat is designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

History:
Haghpat Monastery stands today as it originally did in the Middle Ages. Founded in 976 AD by Saint Nerses, the abbot of Shirakavan Monastery, the complex was built to promote the development of Armenian spiritual culture. There is evidence that there was a small Christian village near Haghpat as early as the 4th century. The monastery's original church, Surb Grigor, was destroyed in a fire in 1903 and replaced by the existing structure. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Armenia.
