Geghard Monastery in Armenia is a medieval monastery located in the Kotayk Province, Armenia. It was founded in the 4th century by the revered monk and spiritual leader Grigor Lusavorich and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The name “Geghard” is derived from the Armenian phrase “geghard” meaning spear, referring to the lance used by Roman soldiers to pierce Christ’s side at his crucifixion. The monastery features intricate carvings and several churches, including the Katoghike Church, said to have been built in 1215.
