It was inaugurated on August 11, 2011 to honor the legacy and work of writer, poet, and feminist Silvina Ocampo. The monument was designed by Ismael Lovetti and was composed of a bronze bust of Ocampo, surrounded by a large granite pedestal engraved with 25 of her poems. As a tribute to Ocampo's literary works, the monument also features a medley of musical pieces composed by Argentinian musicians Alberto Ginastera and Lalo Schifrin, both of whom were were personally inspired by Ocampo's writings. Designed by Fabián Burgos and Julio Santo, and built by the sculptor Mariana Luisa Díaz, the sculpture stands at a height of 11 meters (36 feet). The monument is located in the Plaza Cadívolo, a public space in the Palermo neighborhood, not far from some of Silvina Ocampo's favorite places within the city. The plaza is named in acknowledgment of Silvina’s brother, Bioy Casares, and the Argentine poet Alfonsina Storni, who are both buried in the nearby Cemitério de la Recoleta.
