History:

The parish was founded in 1845 by Father Mathias Molitor, who was sent to the area by Bishop William Quarter of Chicago. Originally called St. Mary's Church, its early members mostly consisted of German immigrants who had come to the area to farm. Mass in its early years was celebrated in a small frame building, and in 1855, a larger brick church was built. In 1895, the church was changed to its present name, Good Shepherd, and in 1915 the present church structure was built.
