The Evangelical Congregational Church in Argentina was founded in 1890 by Thomas Stowell Jones. Jones was a Congregationalist missionary who trained at the Union Theological Seminary of Congregationalism and was ordained in 1889. He found a lack of spiritual guidance and churches for people living in rural areas of Argentina, and set out to establish churches in these areas. By the 1930s, Jones had started 80 churches and schools, with more opening in subsequent decades. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Argentina.
