The cathedral is the largest in the country and is the largest in the Americas south of Mexico City. History:

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Patronage was built in the 19th century in Neo-Gothic style to replace an old chapel that once stood in this location. The design was commissioned to French architect Leandro Locatelli, and construction started in 1882. In 1896 the cathedral was declared a National Historic Monument by President Julio Argentino Roca. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Argentina.
