St. Maron's Cathedral, Buenos Aires is the largest Eastern Rite Catholic church in South America. It is situated in the Balvanera neighborhood of Buenos Aires and is the episcopal seat of the Maronite Catholic Archeparchy of Argentina. The current building of the cathedral was completed in 1931, although the original church dates back to 1849. It is one of the best churches in Argentina which you must visit.

History:

The parish of St. Maron was founded in 1849 by Lebanese immigrants, who had fled their homeland due to the political unrest of the time. The first church was built in 1850, although it was destroyed by fire in 1864. It was rebuilt the same year, but was again destroyed in 1892. In 1924, the property was transferred to the Maronite Catholic Church, and the present building was completed in 1931. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Argentina.
