History:

Ffryes Bay is a neighborhood located in the Caribbean city and seamount of St. John’s, Antigua & Barbuda. The bay was first recorded by Europeans in the early 1500s, when Sir Thomas Warner landed with a group of settlers and began to develop the area. The bay has since been of significant importance to the local Antiguan communities, and was an important fishing and trading hub due to its location close to the Galley and Bang Bay reefs. During the 17th century, the bay was the site of a naval battle between Dutch and English ships, known as the Battle of Ffryes Bay. In the 19th century, a sugar plantation known as Betty’s Hope was established on the site of the bay, and Ffryes Bay served as an important trading port for cargo and passengers traveling between England and the Caribbean.
