Sant Joan d'Aixàs is a small village in the border area of Andorra, surrounded by the high Pyrenees. It has a total population of around 300. The village is a member of the Catalan-speaking community of Andorra, and is also part of the parish of Meritxell. Its history dates back to the 10th century when it was a trading post for merchant convoys traveling between France and Spain.
