It is one of the oldest and most important churches of the principality, as well as in the Pyrenees. Ransol Church was initially constructed in the early 12th century, with a single nave, and was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, under the invocation of the Apocryphal saint Stella Maris. In 1289, it was given name of "Sant Miquel de Ransol". Later on, the church was expanded and several Gothic additions were created, including a sacristy and a bell tower, which are considered its most distinguishing features today. Through the centuries, several renovations were conducted at Ransol Church, though some of its most notable features remains intact.
