According to the legend, a powerful Demon King named Durgamshasura attacked the residents of Renigunta and the local Goddess, Siddhimangala, fought with the Demon. Sri Venkateswara (Vishnu) came to her aid and with the help of the people of Renigunta, they managed to kill the Demon. As an appreciation, Sri Venkateswara renamed the goddess Siddhimangala as ‘Yellamma’. The temple got its name from this legend and is usually visited by those seeking cures for their diseases. The temple also sees large crowds during special festivals like Amavasya, Pournami (Full Moon), Sravana Pournami, and Karthika Pournami.
