The Mahavishnu temple in Himachal Pradesh is an important pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Vishnu. The temple follows Vaishnav traditions and the worship of Lord Vishnu is conducted in the form of several pujas throughout the day. The pujas involve elaborate rituals that are performed with utmost devotion and dedication. The daily worship in the Mahavishnu temple begins early in the morning at 4 AM, with the offering of flowers and sandalwood paste to Lord Vishnu. This is called the Panchopchara Puja, and is performed by the priest and devotees. After this, the holy chants of Vedic hymns like the Vishnu Sahasranamam, Bhagavata Purana and other texts are recited. The temple then holds special puja offerings during the day, in honour of Lord Vishnu. This includes offering of baghlava, a dessert made with nuts and saffron, and fruits like banana and coconut. Prasadam is also distributed to all devotees. The day’s worship ends with the Aarti, where devotees line up at the temple entrance and wave lit camphor lamps to the accompaniment of devotional songs. The Aarti is further followed by an evening prayer at the temple. The Aarti marks the end of a day's worship, prior to which the devotees take a dip in the holy water of the nearby river Yamuna.
