Kisha Orthodhokse Ungjillëzimi (KOU) is the name of the Albanian Orthodox Church in the Balkans. The KOU is the official branch of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in Albania, and was founded in the 18th century. It consists of nine dioceses and has its head office in Tirana. KOU uses the liturgical language of Church Slavonic and also provides services in Albanian. KOU activities include religious services, philanthropy, education, and cultural activities. It has a total of 250 churches and monasteries, as well as ten seminaries and several monastic institutions. The KOU is an autocephalous branch of the Orthodox faith and is the largest religious body in Albania.
