The church was founded in 1971 by Father Jerome Michalenko, an Orthodox priest, who wanted to establish a presence for Orthodox Christianity in the New England area. Father Michalenko gathered a small congregation and started holding regular services in an apartment in Boston. He was granted a permanent home a few years later when the St. Thomas Chapel was built in 1975. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Albania.
