DistrictKaliro District is located in the Eastern Uganda and part of the Busoga sub-region. It was established in 2006 from the bigger Iganga District. Kaliro has three main clans of Basoga, Ganda and Lukiko tribes. The dominant languages spoken in the district include Lusoga, Luganda and Ateso. The main economic activities in the district are subsistence farming, livestock rearing and fishing. The district is home to two national parks, including Mabira forest and Kagombe forest. Moreover, Kaliro District is served by two private banks, Umeme Limited and Centenary Bank. Kaliro District is governed by district local government in accordance with theLocal Government Act 1997. The current elected officials are the district chairman, vice chairman, councillor, mayor and the district clerk.
